Dear Zephyr ISD Parent/Guardian,
In keeping with Zephyr ISD practices to respond to COVID-19, we are notifying all student families and staff that a student who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 was present on the Zephyr School campus, on Friday, January 22, 2021. Due to privacy requirements, we will not be releasing the names of the individual or details that may identify them.
Our local health department will begin a case investigation and will contact any individuals determined to be in close contact with the infected individuals. All students and staff that came into close contact will be directly notified. Those that were in close contact will remain off campus for a number of days to ensure they do not have the virus, so that there will not be any further spread. We will keep you apprised of future updates.
While we do not have reason to believe that those who were not in close contact with the infected individual have reason to be concerned. We ask that you continue to watch for symptoms of COVID-19.
Any of the following symptoms indicate a possible COVID-19 infection:
● Temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth
● Sore throat

November 27, 2020 Update
Dear Zephyr ISD Parent/Guardian,
We hope everyone had a relaxing, safe, family oriented holiday to the best of your ability in these difficult times. It has been a great semester thus far for our students and we hope to continue this until the Christmas break on Friday, December 18th.
We know there may be some concern with all the movement and gathering people have done over the Thanksgiving Break. If you are concerned with the possibility of spread that could have occurred over the break, we are allowing the option to go to online learning for a period of two weeks. November 19, 2020 Update
Dear Zephyr ISD Parent/Guardian,
We had two positive cases earlier this week, and two other tests pending at this time. To be proactive, as a precaution and not an official quarantine, we are going to go online for 1st-5th period on Friday, November 20th for high school students, grades 9-12. We will cancel the games on Friday, November 20th, and Saturday, November 21st. We will make a decision on the games scheduled for November 23rd & 24th, based on the results of the pending tests. There will be a message sent out to inform you of the status of these games once we have more details on the possible cases. To be counted present for each class, students will need to Zoom in to each of their classes at the regularly scheduled class time.
We are going to continue with in-person learning for our PK-8th grade students this Friday. We have not had any symptoms or cases of Covid-19 in these grade levels that would cause us concern at this time. If you would like your child in PK-8th to stay home for the final day, please call the teacher or office at 325-739-5331 ext. 104 to let us know so we can communicate the assignments to your child online.
If you need to get a meal from the cafeteria on Friday, please call the cafeteria office in the morning at 325-739-5331 ext. 133, to make arrangements.
If you have symptoms or test positive for Covid-19 over the Thanksgiving break, please contact us at 325-739-5331 ext. 105, to let us know. We will evaluate our status on Saturday, November 28th, following Thanksgiving. If there is a concern with the number of cases involving our staff or students, we will do our best to let you know as soon as possible.

April 17, 2020 Update
Educational Update Based on Governor Abbott’s April 17th Orders
Based on the April 17th executive order of Governor Abbott, the Bangs, Blanket, Brookesmith, Brownwood, Coleman, Early, May, Panther Creek, Santa Anna, and Zephyr ISDs will only be providing off-campus instruction for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. While the Governor’s order today closes buildings for students, schools are still required by the state to provide services.
Districts will maintain their off-campus instructional programs for students and their meal programs, according to each district’s plan. Personnel should maintain communication with their supervisors to coordinate work to maintain core district operations. Staff who have been providing their services remotely should continue to do so in coordination with their supervisors.
Graduation plans, grading regulations and progress reporting, summer activities, 2020-2021 registration processes, student personal belonging pick-up, and other logistical details will vary by district. Please follow your district’s website and email communications.

March 31, 2020 Update
Educational Adjustments Based on Governor Abbott’s March 31st Orders
Based on the March 31st executive order of Governor Abbott, the Bangs, Blanket, Brookesmith, Brownwood, Coleman, Early, May, Panther Creek, Santa Anna, and Zephyr ISDs report the extension of closure until at least May 4, 2020.
Districts will maintain their off-campus instructional programs for students and their meal programs, according to each district’s plan. Personnel should maintain communication with their supervisors to coordinate work to maintain core district operations. Staff who have been providing their services remotely should continue to do so in coordination with their supervisors.
Any employee in a household with a person testing positive for COVID, or any employee with a fever, cough, or shortness of breath is ordered to stay home and seek medical consultation. Employees at work with a fever greater than 99.9 will be sent home.
For those essential employees who must still maintain a physical presence in the district:
- Don’t shake hands and wash hands regularly
- Avoid meetings or work environments with more than five people in close proximity
- Social distancing (at least six feet away from other people) should be observed regardless of crowd size

March 20, 2020 Update
As an update to our current status we would like to post this letter and let you know what we are currently working on to keep our students connected as we navigate through this very difficult time for everyone involved. This is not anything we would have ever dreamed would happen but it is here and we are doing our best to deal with it.
I would like to thank the lunchroom and the other staff members that have assisted with providing meals during our closure. I asked them to try to have them prepared the first day of our closure and they came up Sunday night to prepare them. They have gone above and beyond to continue providing meals as we proceed. This is a service that is available for free to every child in the area from 0-18, and even students that were required to pay for lunches when school was in session are now free. We would love to provide a meal and if you want to start receiving meals through this program please contact Rhonda King at 325-739-5331 ext. 130.
Our teachers have been working with google classroom and other technology services to transition to an on line classroom for your students. It was a relief to our students and staff when the Governor took the STAAR test away for this school year, but we still want to continue our education and prepare your child for the following year. The trainings and setting up the programs has gone very well. We are hopeful that we can roll this out beginning with the week of March 30th.
We appreciate everyone that filled out the technology survey. Mr. Lowrey and Mr. Blair worked to come up with numbers to see which households needed a device or internet to continue their learning online. Our goal is to have an IPAD for students that do not have one in PK-2nd grade, and a laptop for students from 3rd-12th• We purchased 60 laptops based on the survey and ordered several hotspots to cover the students in the survey that were either without a device or internet service. We are hoping for them to be delivered next week and have them ready to roll out the following week. There will probably be some issues learning the programs and routines at first, but if this continues for an extended time it will be very beneficial to the students and teachers. There will be online videos, assignments, email communication between the student and teachers, and on line conferencing capabilities if it is needed.
This Monday, March 23rd, we will be taking up the homework from the following week. At that time, we will hopefully be handing out the last packet for the week of March 23rd-27th, and transitioning to online capability the following week. All of this will depend on when we get the laptop shipment, hotspots, and if we can get them online in time to swap the packet for technology if needed on March 30th.
We appreciate your patience on the situation and the help several people have offered to help others in the community. If you know of someone that is need of something at this moment, please let us know and we will do our best if we are capable of helping. We will try to post another update to each of you on our website next week to prepare you for the following Monday. Your children are special to us and we miss them very much! March 18, 2020 Update
Given the rapidly evolving situation with COVID-19, Bangs, Blanket, Brookesmith, Brownwood, Coleman, Early, May, Panther Creek, Santa Anna ISD, and Zephyr ISDs will extend the suspension of normal district operations through Friday, April 3rd in an effort to support our nation’s need to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. Our health officials report that cases are continuing to spread in the state, and confirmed cases in our county seems likely. Suspending operations for this length of time will allow us to determine, in coordination with local health officials, whether the virus has community spread or whether it has been contained. We are coordinating together the week of April 3rd to make any decisions on whether there is a need to extend the suspension further.
During this time, districts will switch to off-campus instruction for students. Beginning March 23rd, all employees should contact their supervisors for any modifications to assignment. Districts will continue to provide breakfast and lunch to students throughout this shift, according to each district’s plan. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has outlined the need for all communities to implement a social distancing protocol. We want to reiterate a request to our broader community to take the following reasonable precautions to prevent the spread of the illness:
- Don’t shake hands.
- Wash your hands regularly.
- Limit movement within the community, especially avoiding crowded places and maintaining 3 to 6 ft of distance between people (at least an arm’s length).
- If you are moving around in the community, don’t congregate in large groups.
- For those who have traveled to areas with known COVID-19 cases – both inside and outside of the country – we ask that you contact your local health department and self-quarantine and monitor for symptoms based on their recommendations.
- If you suspect you have symptoms of COVID-19, call your health care provider for medical advice.
- Keep your child at home if he/she feels ill, even if you think it is just a cold.
- Do not leave the house if you are ill, except to access medical care.

March 16, 2020 Update
Breakfast and Lunch will be available for any student age 18 or younger…for free. You can pickup breakfast from 7:00-8:00 and lunch from 10:00-12:00.
March 14, 2020 Update
Response Plan
The information on the COVID-19 virus is changing rapidly. While there have been no cases of COVID-19 in Brown county, we want to be proactive in providing educational services during very unpredictable times. Based on information received at a 10:00 meeting this morning (March 14), Bangs, Blanket, Brookesmith, Brownwood, Coleman, Early, May, Santa Anna, and Zephyr school districts will extend spring break for students through at least March 22, 2020. This extension allows our districts an opportunity to make plans to provide educational, food, and special education services within each community while students are not in attendance. You can expect to see these plans by Wednesday, March 18.
On Monday, March 16, all campus personnel should report at 9:00 am. All other district personnel should report to their usual locations at their regular start times. Any staff who traveled internationally or domestically, where they may have been exposed to COVID-19, should
immediately contact their supervisor before reporting to work.
Based on the ever-changing nature of this situation, districts will continue to meet and adjust as needed. We all understand these are decisions that have huge impacts on our communities on multiple fronts. We appreciate your patience as we work through unpredictable times. Please monitor your district’s website and social media accounts for updated information. As of today, all districts plan to reopen to students on March 23, 2020. Pandemic-EBT
Pandemic-EBT (P-EBT) was authorized by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. The purpose of P-EBT is to provide food assistance to families with students who would have received free or reduced-price lunch while attending school but are not attending school in person because of COVID-19 restrictions.
Mask Update
The School Board has voted to adopt the governor's new order and allow the wearing of masks to be optional. Though no longer required, students and staff who would like to wear masks are encouraged to do so.
